As humans, we are quick to assign immediate meanings to familiar visual icons. Rarely do we consider an alternative meaning.

Many of my paintings are inspired by people I know: friends or contacts that inspire me, touch my heart in some way, or intrigue me. And my paintings almost always speak in metaphors and symbolism.

"Angels and Demons" was inspired by my dear friend and talented artist, Glamaris Gonzalez. When I was struggling to transition from commericial art to fine art, I fought many creative "demons:" the temptation of immediate, abundant money, my comfort of working within a client's specifications, my ear to face and express my own personal emotions and ideas through my art, just to name just a few.

In the midst of these conflicts, Glamaris was my best friend, and often served as a creative counselor. At one point she sent me a saying that has had a great impact on my paintings. It was truth, simplicity, and is now an essential creative tool for me; vital to the way I work and think.

This painting is dedicated to Glamaris. May she find happiness in her art, and when the time comes, face her own "Angels and Demons" as she has helped me to do.
