All that glitters IS gold!
Pics of the fabulous, curious, beautiful, fun and fancy
gold items left behind
by all of the (fabulously dressed) attendees of the Golden Show!
It is almost midnight. The Golden Show reception has finally wound down, after the gallery began flicking the lights at
10:30pm, and then turned them out completely!
We're sitting in the office of Juniper Sky fine Art Gallery, the gallery staff, and few friends and I. We're all dead
tired, but happy, tallying the sales and cleaning up platters scattered with the remains of fresh fruit, fine cheeses, and
champagne.
Someone says, "So Gina...have you seen what people left behind?" The answer was no.
With the craziness of the night, meeting and visiting with all the people, talking about the art, helping with sales,
helping with clean up, I had not had even a second to glance at the table displaying the "gold leave behinds."
It was funny. I didn't really expect to receive a bunch of stuff. Matter of fact, I actually packed a few pieces of
gold paper, and a few tiny gold beads and ribbons, to get things started. I thought, "Well this way, at least there
will be SOMETHING in the bowl."
I have to say that you, the attendees of the Golden Show, blew me away completely. I have far from nothing...I have
BAGS and BAGS of fabulous treasures from the fabulous to the formal...from the funny to the bizarre.
We sat on the floor of the gallery office, all of us gathered around the bags, sifting through the many wonderful golden,
glimmering items.
Exquisite antique buttons (from the lovely Miss Sylvia), a half a dozen marked 14K gold chains, a tiny box with gold leafs
inside, mason jar lids. old confetti, sunflowers spritzed with gold glitter (Miss Jessica - a beautiful choice!), a funny
little golden C3PO action figure (loved it!), hundreds of beautiful pins, pendants, and trinkets of all kinds. A box of
chocolates (with the chocolcates still inside!) in gold patterned wrappers, a long stemmed golden flower (from the owners
of the original Bather painting-- thanks sweet Kyle and Emily!), gold shoes, gold gloves (thanks Mary C), a flashlight adorned
with gold glitter that says "find Your Light" (Chase and Jan, you two rock!), a Jose Quervo label, a Jesus pin,
ribbons, beads, X-mas tree decorations and trim, a magnifying glass framed in two carved golden serpants, a beautiful stick
pin with crystal on top (Susan C - nice touch!) dozens of tiny golden pieces of sculpted art or glass created by local artists,
a white gold wedding band with tiny inset diamonds, a fabulously ornate victorian jewelry box. Gold nail polish, gold hair
glitter, gold sequins, gold lace. Earrings, bracelets, a gold serpentine bracelet with an elegant cameo. Paperclips, gold
paper, gold wire, coins, X-mas bows, a golden goblet. So many things from mystery bearers, and so much more that I cannot
possibly list it all.....
I decided to put all of this on line for others to see, because I thought it was so very cool that people actually took
the time to find /select / choose their gold items to leave behind. I loved sorting through these treasures, imagining who
brought them, or where they came from beforethey ended up in my hands. I thought others might also want to see what pieces
of YOU were brought to, and left at, my show. They are now going to become part of me: my life, my art, my paintings, my
journey.
I am mulling them over now. Ideas and sparkly golden visuals of all kinds thrown in the mental hopper so that the brain
cells (what are left of them) can begin churning on what to make out of them.
When the "IDEA" hits, I will get the creative ball rolling, and whatever gets created out of these treasures
will be delivered to Juniper Sky Fine Art Gallery in Kayenta. When I do, I will send out an email to any interested parties
know that the gold leave behind painting (or paintings) are there. If you are a careful and keen observer, you'll find the
item(s) you left behind in the art!
One think I DO know (and have known from the very moment I saw the leave behinds) -- EVERY SINGLE PIECE that was left
behind will be somehow included in whatever gets created. They are all a part of the excitement, energy and creative thought
that creates for me a certain magic.
The sales of the original paintings is great (love it!), and touches my heart with humility and gratefulness, the gold
leave behinds were something that, for me, made the opening night of the Golden Show a night to remember.
Thank you. Gina J
