This
piece has a very ominous side, and a very bright side. On the surface it is about the trend of people returning
to growing their own food. We have lost that art over the last 100+ years as industry has taken over agricultural
production.
With unstable and dwindling resources (oil), food prices will inevitably skyrocket. Companies like
Monsanto are tightening patented control over bio-engineered seeds which do NOT reproduce (worth
learning more about!). The world’s food supply could easily fall into the control of a few corporations’
greedy paws in the near future, and famine has repeatedly destroyed populations and countries in the past.
This painting depicts the dawn
of a new era, and shows urban apartments with tiny food gardens dangling from the balconies. It is meant
to show a proactive approach that we can take in the midst of turbulent times of change, and promote a degree of self-sufficiency.
Besides, who doesn’t
love fresh from the garden strawberries?
