About the Painting:
Throughout my body of painting work, one can easily find a repeated juxtapositioning of opposites. I love to pick out things in life that pose subtle or striking contrast, and find an interesting way to portray them visually in a painting.

Life and Death is a complex painting for me. For me, after contemplating this topic at great length, I find both beauty and horror in both aspects. There are times when life is so good, the feeling of elation is so strong it all but carries you. Other times the weight of life is so heavy that death looks magical, mystical and beautiful in comparison. I know so many people who experience this toggle of feelings, which I find facinating, and which attracted me to attempt to paint it.

In my final painting, I hope the viewer will accept my invitation to look at this painting two ways: first with left side of the piece representing life, and then the right side as life.
