About the Painting:
This painting was inspired by the feeling of having someone in your life that is beyond
close to you.
Someone you let in. Someone you can let your guard down with. Someone you permit to really know you you are, warts and
all. Someone who scraps away all of your protective boundaries, and reaches inside your chest, and gently "touches your
heart."
Allowing someone this kind of personal access to the essence of who you are requires the ultimate state of vunerability.
To portray that, I used a nude figure, in a tranquil and vulnerable pose, with her hand touching her chin to show the slight
unease at the level of intimacy. Her chest has an open door, a symbol of the open,
exposed state of the heart. The hand reaching in plucks a heart-shaped harp with gold wire strings. It gently plays
sweet music, to symbolize the beauty of this state of intimacy.
I hope that everyone has at least one person (be it friend, lover, or family member) that touches their heart in the way
I've portrayed.
