About the Painting:

In my experience, people tend to view the artist lifestyle as romantic; just sit around and create art all day.

In reality, there is a great deal of time, thought and effort put into creating the pieces. Contrary to popular perception, artists are subject to the same stress, deadlines, and commitments that any other profession comes with. Most of the time the investments are made without guarantee of a paycheck. Our lives, and efforts, are often pursued on a wish and a prayer.

Do I sit around and paint all day? Hell no. I wish. I wear so many hats, it feels like I am the entire hat store. Completely aside (and separate from) the creative process, I have a hand in all of the marketing, Promotion, advertising, web design, image preparation, public relations, inventory, and even delivery and shipping. My job involves travel, and more phone calls, emails, and face-to-face than I have energy or time for.

But make no mistake, I love it all. Being involved first-hand often spreads me thin, and sometimes I feel like I will go full fledge nut-bar in the process. But it is important to me to touch the things I put out into the world...to have a hand in the effort and transfer of energy...in whatever form it takes.

Sometimes patrons scoff at the prices placed on the art, thinking the figures are huge, and tht the artist must really be "making bank." When the pieces do sell, a portion of those earnings go to pay for our gallery commission, supplies that went into creating the pieces, and to pay for any bills we are behind on during the lean times (laughing...yes...there are lean times!).

Oh yeah...I work VERY HARD for the money...with much passion and commitment. And am eternally grateful for the patrons that purchase my work (large and small) and therby support me, my two fat doggies, and make it possible for me to continue pursuing this thing that is my path.

This painting was a fun way of expressing how much work I invest in my chosen profession.

As if to amplify the hard-work concept, this piece was a real pain in the butt to complete. The glass I had for the frame ended up not fitting the opening. I had to make two trips into town to locate a piece of glass to fit the frame. Even then, it refused to go in, even when I knew the measurements were precise. I think it might have been taunting me...ironically making me work harder and harder to complete what should have been a simple task.

Just for fun, I included one of my hard-earned Andrew Jackson’s...defacing it and collaging it to the frame. Oh..pain...to tear up a hard-earned $20 bill.
