"Perfumed Freedom" is part two of two paintings that express my views about my long over-due choice to abandon commercial
art.
The symbols in this painting are the direct opposite of those in the companion painting, "Poison Puppet."
Instead of a dying, bleeding heart with a lock, the heart is now shown with fluttering wings, in motion and mid-flight.
The artist archetype in this painting is following the heart, a not-so-subtle, newly chosen direction. In contract to the
beat up type drawer surface of "Poison Puppet," this piece was painted on a fresh new canvas, and has viles of designer
perfume ("Happy" and "Magic") mounted to the edges. The perfume is symbolic of a sweet new smell in the
air, stimulating, pleasant, and wonderful to be around. The lurking crow is replaced by a dove in flight, symbolic of a new-found
peace. The painting is embellished with jewels and multicolored patterns, which frequently show up in paintings where my
mood is one of being happy, at ease, relaxed, or comfortable.
There is no money in this painting, symbolizing the non-importance of money in this leg of my artistic journey. There
is no other person but the artist, symbolic of the lack of outside influence on the creative process. There are no bars,
no locks, and -- most importantly -- no puppet strings.
