About the Painting:
In
my line of “work” I find myself the recipient of a lot of static, otherwise known as compliments and criticism.
I try very hard not to take either one too seriously. The compliments are nice and are appreciated,
but I never want to lose my sense of humility and perspective about who I am and what I do If I had a dime for every criticism I‘ve received
in the past 32 years, I would be a very wealthy woman. Some think I should make paintings that are
more marketable, make things that match the couch. Some say I should not make prints, or lose the tank
top and dress more professionally (horrified gasp!) This painting is about who I am: simple, unpretentious, dirty, and barefooted. It
is an honest, straightforward, unpretentious statement about the artist I am - said in a gentle, but firm “like it or
not” manner. My art is created for reasons other than sales, popularity, conformity. The painter
I am is governed by the person I am inside and the feelings that come from that place… and if I have my way...that
won’t ever change.
