About the Painting:
If you are local to Southern Utah, you may remember
an editorial illustration I did for the
Spectrum Newspaper a few years back called
“Patriotic Shakespeare.” It was a
fun, stylized portrait of Shakespeare, decked out in stars and stripes, that advertised his play “1776.”
While researching this show, I stumbled across the old illustration. I liked the style and line work of the piece, needed a break from the dark and tragic, and thought it might be fun to include a portrait of the man himself! So I re-worked the sketch into a more formal, less play- specific painting as kind of a wacky, tribute piece.
