About the Painting:
In a series full of dark, twisted, and complicated plots, it was a fun relief to do this whimsical painting based on the Taming of the
Shrew.
This piece is a fun interpretation of the transformation of Katherine. I wanted to play with the attitude aspect, so I exaggerated (...just a little!) Kate on the left is snooty, haughty
and has her arms crossed to communicate her closed nature and her attitude that,
“I won’t budge an inch!” Kate on the right is a comical
transformation into the bride, depicted as gentle and subservient. The two Kates are standing on the hand of her suitor and transformer,
Petruchio.
