About the Painting:
This painting represents my interpretation of the three,
witchy sister characters at the beginning
of the play. Rather than portraying them
in the expected wrinkled, ugly manner, I keyed
in on the element of dark seduction: that all that looks good may not be what it seems.
It was my desire to amplify the emotion of temptation by making the sisters hauntingly beautiful, disturbingly alluring, mysterious, and inviting like a spider’s trap. I wanted the viewers to feel that, although they may want to, they cannot look away from the trap. I did this by employing an
old world technique of direct eye gaze
with the viewer. This creates the illusion
that the witch’s eyes are following you, and refusing to let go of your gaze, no matter where you go in the room.
