About the Painting:

Back in 2004, I was preparing for an upcoming show. I had been at it for weeks straight, working about 15 oil paintings at the same time.

Time flies, and I found myself three days away from opening night, with at least 7 paintings still unfinished. The heater in my house was set at 100+ degrees, oil paintings perched over every heater in an attempt to speed dry them, and small paintings were baking in the oven. No kidding.

Working non-stop around the clock, I needed every second to make the goal. This is what I call "the PUSH." I had not poked my head out of the studio in weeks, hadn't showered in three days.

In the midst of all this chaos, I fantasized about being able to walk away from all the stress, and lose myself in a wonderful, outrageously hot bath. Candles, wine, no worries. Since it was not possible at that moment, I took a micro break from my show endeavors, and did a fast sketch with colored pencil of what I wished I could be doing.

That little sketch, born out of an incredible amount of stress (and the desire to be clean..ha ha) became the painting, "The Bather." Out of thousands of paintings I have created, it is, by far, my most popular painting with the public. It has been shipped it around the world. For me, it is an icon to remind me to take time out and relax a little, even when the storms or stress are bearing down at their strongest.
