About the Painting:
This painting is a companion piece to my painting called "The Bather."
A friend of mine, Brooke, modeled for the painting. We had her posed in her swimsuit on the edge of her bathtub in her
little studio apartment, using a red linen tablecloth as a make-do drape. I took some reference photographs first, then later
did a few fast sketches with a black ball-point
pen. The sketch (shown right) became this painting.
The idea for the painting came from a desire to create a series of pieces based on relaxation. This series is ongoing,
with pieces popping up whenever I feel the need to relax, or escape the day to day grind. The bathtub (with lots of bubbles,
candles, nuclear hot water, and girlie smelling stuff, please!) is my favorite way to release stressand it recurs frequently
in this series.
