About the Painting:
Though
it is about a semi-serious topic, “Sheeple People” is my whimsical, silly painting. I hope
it makes you laugh, as it did me In a society that prides itself on expressing our individuality, it never ceases to amaze me how hard everyone works
to be “just like everyone else.” In part, I believe public advertising is to blame. They tell us what cars to
drive, what clothes to wear, what attitude is hip, what perfume will make one sexy, what soft drinks will make you “cool.”
The list goes on and on. They set the social stereotypes, then they manipulate consumers into purchasing
decisions by making them feel insecure. “Sheeple People” was my funny way of depicting – and yes…making fun of – the
predictable, boring, preconditioned state of the “herd” mentality. As it says on the side,
“conforming is baaaaaaad.” It is a funny observation, and an invitation for us all to break
away from the herd, burn your TV set (ha ha) and to aspire to “march to the beat of our own drum.”
