Since the wall space at Mariposa is limited, I had to go shopping for a bunch of free standing easels to display some of the
larger paintings. Here's some of my brand new, cute metal easels...stuffed into the Saturn. Yikes.

Oil paint shavings from my painting pallet. The shavings are pretty skanky on the top side, but on the underbelly, where
they are against the glass of the pallet, they reveal a lovely rippled pattern of bright, mixed colors. My idea for these
was to carefully shave these off the glass pallet, using a sharp razor knife. I then wanted to attach them to the edges of
my painting, "My Gift My Curse," (the piece inspired by the Fleetwood Mac song, "My Little Demon")
|

I opted to put a custom-cut wooden border around the edges of this painting to set off the hands. Here I am, neck deep in
the project. This was pretty challenging to pull off, because the paint shavings were very fragile. In some cases, it felt
like I was liquid welding plastic wrap to the piece. Took lots of time, care and patience, but mission accomplished!

The painting "Sweet Dreams," in progress. This painting is based on the song by the Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams
are Made of This..."

Workin' away on "Sweet Dreams" at the Loft. I think I have been wearing those same painting britches for 4 weeks
now. Ha ha.

"Pray for Rain," finished. This piece hold a special significance for me. It is based on Peter, Paul and Mary's
song, "The Garden Song." The lyrics I chose are as follows:
"...Inch By Inch, Row By Row, I'm Gonna Make this Garden Grow...
Someone bless these seeds I sow, someone warm them from below, 'til the rains comes tumbling down..."
The lyrics are a metaphor for my fine art career: I've planted my seed, prepared the ground, and have taken the time
to care for this thing (art) that is my passion. And now, I wait for the rain.
The painting is embellished with acrylic jewels inside the tiny raindrops, and has real seeds (the actual ones I planted
in my home garden here in Veyo), in the foreground soil.

"Time in a Bottle," and "Bird In Flight" in just getting started.
|
Small scale, black colored Pencil Study for "Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend," to go with the song "The Sparkling
Diamond" from the Moulin Rouge movie soundtrack.
|
"Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend" getting close to being finished. Since the time this photo was taken, I made
the decision to incorporate real diamonds in this painting. One tennis bracelet and a few hours later, the painting now has
10 carats of diamonds, and 7.9 grams of real gold in it. can't imagine it? Well, you'll just have to come to the Opening!

Paintings drying in the heat of the summer sun.

"Let the Music take Me," a spontaneous fun painting based on Madonna's song, "Impressive Instant." The
Line that inspired the painting was, "The World is Spinning Baby, Spinning Baby out of Control...I'll Let the Music Take
Me, Take Me Where My Heart Wants to Go..."
This painting actually was really governed by the I was listening to while painting it, and what type of marks would come
out of me with what songs. This piece is show here finished.

The beginning stage of "The World in My Eyes," based by the song of the same name, sung by the Cure (remake of an
Old Depeche Mode Song.) Here you can see the gesture line sketch, painted lightly with a tiny brush, that gives placement
to the figure.

"The World in My Eyes," a little further along in the underpainting stage.

Detailed pic of"The World in My Eyes," still in progress.
